My daughter’s boyfriend’s father recently passed away—62 years young. What they decided to do is so different and so interesting. I’m keeping an open mind when it’s my turn. https://www.betterplaceforests.com/
My friend Erica Hill opened a funeral home called SPARROW in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Her whole philosophy is exactly in step with what you expressed in your last paragraph.
I love that you opened up the floor for a deeper conversation about this. No one gets to opt out of death! I, too, would like to somehow replace the fear with something gentler and more spiritual. I think Erica is on the right track.
Jasmine - I love that you are feeling into and writing about Death! And yes, Death becomes us! We are both women of the age of The Crone Goddess. The crone, is the last aspect in the physical vessel of the Triple Goddess, together with the Mother (Goddess) and the Maiden she represents part of the circle of life. We both come from fields and careers that worship youth and beauty, and where this aspect of the Goddess is often frightening and misunderstood as she represents our destruction, decay and death. But Death can be wonderful. Joyous. Beautiful. A delicious part of the cycle of life. In nature, the death of Winter is followed by the promise of rebirth in the Spring. I look at this aspect of Death as very positive. It is the end of my Doing..the ownership of the Wisdom garnered in all my living - I celebrate that I am now living each new moment as a Grandmother, a wise woman, a midwife. The word Crone is derived from the old word for crown, suggesting the wisdom that emanates from the head like a halo. With child baring days behind us - we are the wisdom keepers, the seer and healer whose knowledge is sought out to guide others during life's hardships and transitions. YES, Brava Dear One! Celebrate Death, let go of all fear and embrace all the life after death moments that are truly fully living inside each of us... FYI Ricky's show is called After Life and it is absoultely wonderful!
